About Me

Rituparna Patgiri is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati. She has been a recipient of the Krishna Raj Fellowship, the Zubaan-Sasakawa Peace Foundation Grant for Young Researchers from the Northeast, the Wenner-Gren Foundation Grant, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati Start-Up Grant and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Grant. Her research interests lie in exploring questions of culture, food, media, gender and pedagogy. Patgiri is passionate about making academic knowledge accessible to the public and is one of the co-founders of Doing Sociology. She served as the Associate Editor of Society, a journal published by Springer Nature from 2023-2025. Patgiri is the Convenor of the Ad Hoc Group 03 – Food, Culture and Society of the Indian Sociological Society (ISS). Her first co-edited volume, titled Food, Culture, and Society in India: Social, Political, Economic, and Cultural Perspectives, has recently been published by Berghahn Books. She is working on two other books, a co-edited volume on Sociology of Gender in India: Contemporary Issues and Perspectives (Cambridge University Press) and a monograph titled Mobile Theatre of Assam: A Story of Resistance, Consumption, and Culture (Routledge).
